San Bernardino CACHI Collaborative
Creating an inclusive and dynamic civic engagement process for community stakeholders to shape and support innovative partnerships, policies, development, and programs that address community needs through the lens of health.
History
The Inland Empire Wellness Coalition was established via funding from the California Accountable Communities for Health Initiative.
The purpose of our coalition is to advance the work that various stakeholders in our community are doing to support community health workers and to support the advancement of policy work being done in our region on CalAIM. We do that by creating an inclusive and dynamic civic engagement process for community stakeholders to shape and support innovative partnerships, policies, development, and programs that address community needs through the lens of health.
The Partnership’s role is to:
- Inform the development process for the Arrowhead Grove Community Center.
- Advise County development projects and priorities.
- Identify and shape policy recommendations impacting the surrounding communities.
- Be a strong and credible advocate for community interests.
- Secure community benefits for current and future residents (e.g. local hire, affordable housing, health services, etc.).
- Build a focus-driven collaborative of public, private, and community partners.
- Build community leadership and capacity.
- Meet regularly and participate in workgroups and community meetings to provide leadership and guidance, promote shared learning and collaboration.
- Meaningfully engage community voices and interests.
Mission
The Inland Empire Wellness Coalition represents a collaboration between several stakeholder groups coming together to engage community stakeholders to shape and support innovative partnerships, policies, development, and programs that address community health equity needs.
The Partnership will ensure that community benefits are explored through the lens of the following focus areas. These are:
Health and Wellness
The Partnership will strengthen and promote programs that create free/low-cost holistic health and wellness services for residents in and around Arrowhead Grover and Waterman Baseline Community in San Bernardino. Members of our coalition address several key issues within our community such as delivery of healthcare services, mental health, public health/prevention, healthy food access, and active living.
Community Stability
The Partnership will work with local anchor institutions to maintain community stability, promote a healthful environment, provide affordable housing, preserve neighborhood commercial businesses, and strengthen connections to public and/or culturally significant spaces in this area. Key Areas include: Affordable Housing, Housing Stability, Culture/Identity, Business/Job Retention, Community-Serving Businesses, Public Space, etc.
Economic Development
Economic development projects that use public resources, including considerations of potentially new uses for public land should include robust community benefits, such as contracting or partnership opportunities for local businesses, real estate and capital projects that avoid both direct and indirect displacement of current residents and businesses. Issue Area: Health outcome areas affected by innovative programs and research, new jobs/local hire, existing health and educational program opportunities with jobs that can be filled by community members, job quality, community asset building, private investment, philanthropic investment, etc.
Community Health Worker Support
The Partnership is supporting the work that several community stakeholders are doing to advance job opportunities for community health workers. In addition to this the partnership is promoting policies and programs that create workforce development pipelines, reinforce stability, and create opportunities for upward mobility for residents in and connected to the area. Key priority areas for our team include: Career pathways, youth empowerment, quality education, legal representation, social services, immigration, etc.
CalAIM Related Policy Work
The Partnership continues to support ongoing policy related work that is happening in our region to make much needed changes to how the CalAIM health care subsidy system is run.
Environmental Justice
The Partnership will advocate for and promote programs that restore environmental health, remove polluted site conditions, and mitigate environmental impacts on communities from any major new development in the area. Issue Areas: Parks/natural features, natural resource conservation, clean-up of contaminated properties, sustainable practices, water resiliency, and clean energy.
