El Sol Neighborhood Educational Center

El Sol Neighborhood Educational Center was founded in 1991 with the mission to enhance the quality of life for underserved communities in the Inland Empire. We embody the Community Health Worker (CHW) model by employing residents who understand the cultural, linguistic, and social dynamics of their community. These workers build trust and provide vital health education, advocacy, and support services, effectively bridging gaps between healthcare providers and underserved populations. We are Community Health Workers.

02

El Sol & ACH Partnership

The Partnership is supporting the work that several community stakeholders are doing to advance job opportunities for community health workers. In addition to this, the Partnership is promoting policies and programs that create workforce development pipelines, reinforce stability, and create opportunities for upward mobility for residents in and connected to the area. Key priority areas for our team include career pathways, youth empowerment, quality education, legal representation, social services, immigration, etc.

03

Community Health Worker/ Promotor

A Community Health Worker (CHW) / Promotor is a frontline public health worker who is a trusted member of and/or has an unusually close understanding of the community served. This trusting relationship enables the CHW to serve as a liaison, link, or intermediary between health and social services and the community to facilitate access to services and improve the quality and cultural competence of service delivery.

CHW Model

El Sol Neighborhood Educational Center’s Community Health Worker (CHW) Model is designed to empower and mobilize community members to improve health outcomes through culturally competent education, advocacy, and service linkage. This model leverages the strengths of CHWs as trusted liaisons between the community and the healthcare system, ensuring that services are accessible and responsive to the needs of diverse populations.

Impact Stories

“I felt my dreams falling apart… when I met Amelia, an El Sol promotora, my life changed. I joined the El Sol program HIPI and my faith and trust in myself returned to me… now I have the ability to do the same for other women in the communities.”

Maite Padilla

“I wondered if there was anyone out there that could understand me or care for me… the promotoras in the Nutrition program of El Sol taught me that I can be happy, care for myself, work on myself and thanks to them and the program I learned this. I owe them this new me.”
