Registration is now open for San Bernardino Back 2 Nature program, a grant-funded program designed to get the City of San Bernardino residents Back 2 Nature.
To ensure everyone has access to natural areas, the Back 2 Nature program aims to remove all barriers that would otherwise keep the community from enjoying the outdoors. Participants of the program will be provided equipment, transportation, and food for all of the trips.
The program offers overnight camp trips, day hiking trips and an Environmental Justice Teen Club. Teens, ages 13 to 17, interested in participating in the Environmental Justice Teen Club can expect to receive on-the-job training, engage in civic leadership opportunities, participate in the excursions listed above, earn community service hours as well as planning and organizing community clean ups . The club meetings will take place on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 4:30 p.m. at the Rudy C. Hernandez Community Center located at 222 N. Lugo Street.
Camp trips to the YMCA Camp Elk in Wrightwood are available for teens ages 13 to 17 is taking place on June 12 to 16 and a trip for youth ages seven to 12 is taking place on June 26 to June 30. A family camping trip for all ages will take place on July 6 to 9 to Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area. A mandatory information meeting for camping trips will take place on Tuesday, April 18 at 6 p.m.
Hiking day trips will take place on May 20 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. to Etiwanda Nature Preserve Hike; Santa Monica Beach on August 19; and to SeaWorld San Diego at a date yet to be confirmed. Children under 16 years of age require adult supervision.
