The Making Hope Happen Foundation is hosting a Scholarship Reader Orientation on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at noon. This virtual training takes less than an hour and will walk interested persons through how to read and score scholarship apps online. Reading and scoring applications takes between three and five minutes and it can change a life.
Interested persons are invited to participate in the orientation, but it is not required. Persons who have previously participated may begin scoring applications at http://www.sbcusd.com/scholars
The scholarship scoring period has started and will run through Tuesday, March 21. We are asking each reader to score a minimum of 30 applications so that each one is read and scored three times.
The scoring rubric was developed by our Scholarship Committee and approved by the Making Hope Happen Foundation Board of Directors. Applications are open to any SBCUSD senior (including adult school) who has a 2.0 or better GPA. Points are awarded for overcoming hardship including (at any time in their lives) being low-income, in foster care, homeless, raised by a single parent and/or parenting their own children as well as being a DREAMer. Points are also awarded for extracurricular involvement and the submission of a compelling essay.
