Planning Commission Approves Affordable Housing for Veterans

New low-income housing for veterans was approved by the San Bernardino Planning Commission earlier this month. U.S.VETS– Inland Empire is planning to build a three-story affordable housing complex for qualified military veterans.

Located at 1351 N. E Street, the housing development plans for 30 1-and 2-bedroom permanent supportive housing apartments for eligible veterans and their families. Provision supportive services such as food, hygiene supplies, transportation, and therapeutic activities would be offered to residents and veterans in the community. The complex would also include community amenities such as community room, career services center, memorial garden, and an outdoor patio.

The Inland Empire is home to approximately 125,876 veterans. More than 30 percent of area veterans are disabled and 65 percent are age 65 and older. Estimates show that in San Bernardino County, almost 9,000 veterans are experiencing homelessness or face potential homelessness.

U.S. VetsInland Empire looks to secure additional funds this year and begin construction in 2023.
